Working with Limitations...
Coming into this Bothell home, right away I could see that we were mostly limited by the homeowner’s ability to see beyond basic function in a space. Some homeowner’s are so utilitarian, they just can’t envision what potential a house can hold, or how it can become a home reflecting themselves.
Unfortunately, one of the spouses was adamant to only spend a certain amount…but also adamant that they wanted the same type of staging provided by the previous realtor who initially sold them the home. Impossible. So, I had to gently, but firmly tell them what I and my business partner could create within their given parameters.
Yet, at times no amount of explaining and describing, can convince a homeowner that the more given in the budget, logically provides “more” for a staging—especially if there are repairs or handyman installations needed. As well, when you explain what most realtors and homeowners pay for a large staging company, often the reaction is of disbelief…
So, though we were working with such tight parameters, Linda, myself, and even a couple favours I called in, produced a neat, tidy, and colourful home for the photographer! We used a Fall colour palette, accented by teals and blues; gave a detailed list for the homeowners to use for decluttering and organizing on days we weren’t there; and mostly worked with space flow and colour coordination.
We always want to create a home environment that is calm, collected and peaceful. Guests should feel as if they were stepping into a space they could see themselves in, and a place where they can feel motivated to create something that would reflect themselves later.
One of the many details I can recall, was being able to use a bunch of sunflowers the owner’s wife had in the kitchen. It was truly a spot of sunshine in that home.
